Meridian Farms has informed Trot Insider that its premier stallion, Brandons Cowboy, passed away Wednesday, September 11 at the age of 12.

“Despite the efforts of the University of Prince Edward Island Veterinary Hospital over 10 days, Brandons Cowboy succumbed on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 to complications arising from severe abdominal distress,” Meridian told Trot Insider via statement.

From five crops of racing age, Brandons Cowboy has already sired winners of approximately $4 million. This year's two-year-old crop is led by Alberta standouts Comes Home First, Make Three Wishes and Triple Action.

Bred by The Panderosa, Brandons Cowboy raced from 2003 to 2005 and compiled an overall resume which included 15 wins from 55 starts, $517,051 in purse earnings and a mark of 1:50.2.

In 2003, with John Campbell at the helm for trainer Chris Marino, Brandons Cowboy was a 7-1 upsetter in his Metro Pace elimination at Woodbine Racetrack. In 2004, under the tutelage of conditioner Mark Ford, Brandons Cowboy won the $260,000 Berry’s Creek for pilot Dan Dube.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Brandons Cowboy.
