Track Mark For Coleman Pupil In NYSS
Social Scene and driver George Brennan blistered to a 1:52.2 track record performance in their division of the $155,000 New York Sires States at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday, September 11. Social Scene’s clocking erased the former track mark of 1:52.3, which was set last year by Romantic Moment and pilot Yannick Gingras.
Three NYSS divisions were contested during the Wednesday card, as were four $12,700 splits of the Excelsior Series, all for sophomore pacing fillies.
The day belonged to the Casie Coleman-trained Social Scene, as the filly paced through fractions of :28.3, :56.3 and 1:24 before completing her track record performance for Brennan. Springforth (driven by Bruce Aldrich Jr.) finished second and JK Black Beauty finished third.
Brennan was asked in the winner’s circle why he opened up so much daylight on the field.
“She’s been having throat problems and I kept her rolling and didn’t want to shut her off,” he said.” She’s a real nice filly and she went a big trip here today.”
The daughter of American Ideal-On The Catwalk has now scored six victories from 11 starts and raised her bankroll to over $160,000 for owners West Wind Stable, Steve Calhoun and Mac Nichol. She returned $4.10 on a successful Win wager.
Other NYSS winners during the card were Summertime Lea (1:54.1) and Cheyenne Miriam (1:54.3).
