Rock N Soul Takes Harrington Feature
Trainer Ron Burke has enjoyed a couple of productive days at Harrington Raceway thanks in large part to yesterday’s sweep of the Bobby Quillen Memorial eliminations with Foiled Again and Clear Vision, but Tuesday afternoon it was a classy mare who found herself in the spotlight.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, the Burke-trained Rock N Soul captured Tuesday’s $19,000 Mares Open Pace for driver Corey Callahan in 1:52.
Callahan grabbed an early three-hole trip for the public’s top choice, but he brushed her to the top in the second quarter and had seven other distaffers chasing them at the mid-way point in :54.3. Rock N Soul led the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:24 before using a :28-second kicker to win by three-quarters of a length over Cooking The Books. Yagonnakissmeornot rallied to finish third.
The six-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover-Artchitecture improved her 2013 record to 7-6-2 from 20 starts with the victory, and he seasonal bankroll climbed to $163,200. The 23-time winner has banked more than $1 million for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Frank Baldachino.
