More ATSS Success For 'Yzerman'
The Atlantic Sires Stakes rolled into Inverness Raceway Sunday afternoon, with two-year-old pacing colts and geldings sparring in a trio of $7,220 ‘A’ divisions and a single $2,500 ‘B’ division.
Super S Yzerman pushed his winning streak to four-in-a-row thanks to his 2:00.4 score for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald. The son of Western Paradise-Island Tradition sat just off the lead through first-half fractions of :29.2 and :59.4 before going into attack mode. He was second and parked at the three-quarter pole in 1:31, but he worked his way to the front and drew clear to win by three lengths in 2:00.4. Odds-on favourite Dumas Walker circled from last to finish second, with third prize going to Settlement Request.
MacDonald shares ownership on the homebred with Morah Kerr of Greenfield, NS, and together they’ve watched the freshman assemble a 5-0-1 record from seven starts. The lion’s share of Sunday’s loot boosted his bankroll to $15,583.
Pictonian Storm picked up a new lifetime mark with his 2:00.1 triumph for driver Mike Stevenson and trainer Wade Sorrie. Stevenson got away fourth and sat fourth to the half before calling on the rookie to go to work. He made steady gains in the backstretch and then used a :28.4 closing quarter to win by three lengths over J J Laser. Island Gigolo was third.
Daniel Ross of Belfast, PEI owns the son of Western Paradise-Southview Sasha who improved his record to 2-2-2 from six trips to the track. He’s managed to bank $11,305 in the process.
Tobins Fusion was a wire-to-wire winner in the final ‘A’ division for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau. The son of Western Paradise-Hot Fusion dictated the pace through panels of :31, 1:02 and 1:32.1 before scooting home in :30.2 to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 2:02.3. Rancousy was the runner-up, with West River Yannik taking home the show dough.
It was the sixth win in eight starts for the career winner of $18,605, who is owned by Boyd Macdonald Prodce Ltd, Daniel Ross and Charles Seymour.
The lone ‘B’ division went to Life To Remember, who broke his maiden for trainer Ronald Seymour, Jr. Gilles Barrieau worked out a two-hole trip for the son of Force Of Life-French Lady, who found clearance in the lane and sped home in :29.2 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Silverhilldiamond in 2:02.3. Come On Gigolo rounded out the top three finishers in the $2,500 affair.
He’s put together a 1-1-1 record in four starts this season while stashing away $2,514 for Seymour and partners William Seymour of Glace Bay and Kevin Dorey of Lower Sackville, NS.
