'Junebug' Equals His Northside Mark
Junebugs Baby overcame a handicapped post eight start in Northside Downs' top pacing class on Saturday afternoon to equal his lifetime mark and divisional track record.
With Myles Heffernan aboard for his fourth driving win of the day, Junebugs Baby advanced from third to first at the half-mile mark and then drew away to win by 13-1/4 lengths in 1:55.4. The four-year-old homebred son of Western Paradise equalled his own aged stallion track record that he set on July 13.
Sent postward as the race favourite after capturing the Frank MacInnis Memorial last weekend in Inverness, Junebugs Baby paid $5.50 to win. Cloudy Bay (Adam Merner) and J N J (Bruce Mcgean) rounded out the top three finishers.
Dominion, N.S. horseman Fraser Turnball shares ownership of the 17-time winner with John Turnbull Jr. of Glace Bay, N.S.
The lion's share of the $1,150 purse nudged Junebugs Baby's career bankroll to $63,177.
