Big Names Return For Quebec Finals
“It will be the most lucrative day of the season for our horsemen. We’re very proud,” said track director Francois Carignan.
The richest card of racing in five years in Quebec will be presented Sunday afternoon at Hippodrome 3R, with the program including seven $50,000 series finals for Quebec-owned and Quebec-bred 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds.
Attendance at Hippodrome 3R has averaged 1,500 to 2,500 on Tuesday nights and 3,000 on Sunday afternoons this year, numbers that elated the Quebec Jockey Club and will enable it to pay out more than $2 million in purses.
The QJC recently opened its eighth teletheatre near the former Hippodrome de Montreal and is projecting total wagering in the province this year in excess of $75 million.
“It shows the formula adopted by the QJC is creating jobs and economic vitality,” said QJC general manager Vincent Trudel.
Two Quebec natives that are returning to drive on the Sunday card are Daniel Dube and Simon Allard.
