Fillies Star In NYSS At Yonkers
Sophomore fillies descended upon Westchester Thursday night, with Yonkers Raceway hosting the $281,275 New York Sire Stakes Joe Goldstein Trot.
Three divisions - worth $94,375, $92,625 and $94,375, respectively - comprised the event.
The opening division, reduced to a quintet with the scratch (sick) of pole-drawing Louise Kemp, was won by a first-up Bostonz Credit (Mark MacDonald). Leaving from what became post position four, she methodically moved from last, engaged 7-10 leader Proclaiming April (Trond Smedshammer), then kept at it.
Bostonz Credit defeated a second-over Wygant Lady (Cat Manzi) by a neck in 1:59.2 (early fractions of :29.1, 1:00.1 and 1:30.1), with Proclaiming April photoed for second.
For Bostonz Credit, a daughter of Credit Winner co-owner by (trainer) Rick Zeron and David Anderson, she returned $29 (fourth choice) for her second win in seven seasonal starts.
The second and third divisions were won in handy, down-the-road fashion by odds-on Barn Babe (John Cummings, $3.40) in 1:59.2, and second choice Bouncing Bax (Jason Bartlett, $4.50) in 1:57.2.
Barn Babe never had an anxious moment. From post two, she strolled around the oval, tickling the timer to the tune of :29.4, 1:01.1 and 1:31.1. The final margin was three lengths over Fifty Shades (Eric Goodell), with Cassas Image (Jim Morrill, Jr.) third.
For Barn Babe, a Cash Hall miss co-owned by (trainer) Steve and Nancy Pratt, she's now 7-for-12 this season and 12-for 24 in her career (earnings over $320,000).
Bouncing Bax prevailed from the pylons (:29.1, 1:00.0, 1:29.2), widening to win by 4-3/4 lengths in a life-best effort. Second went to Kinda Crazy Lindy (MacDonald), with Crazy Grigio (Marcus Johansson) third.
Lola De Vie (Morrill, Jr.), as the 4-5 fave, never seemed to take to the track, threw in some steps early in the lane and a was a non-factor fourth.
For Bouncing Bax, a Credit Winner ma'am trained by Jim Raymer for owner Harbor Racing Stable, it was her third (consecutive) win in a dozen '13 tries.
