Williamson Memorial Contested; Accident Mars Final Division
Four divisions of the Williamson Memorial Stake for two-year-old pacers highlighted Monday afternoon’s card of racing at Fredericton Raceway, with two contests for colts and geldings and a pair for the fillies.
Super S Yzerman was a front-stepping winner in the first division for the ‘boys’. The son of Western Paradise-Island Tradition shot to the top short past the quarter pole and after chopping out middle splits of 1:00.2 and 1:31.1 he used a :29.3 closing quarter to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 2:00.4 for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald. Settlement Request was the runner-up in the $6,130 affair, with third prize earned by Pictonian Storm.
Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, Super S Yzerman improved his rookie record to 4-0-1 from six starts for owners/breeders Clare MacDonald of Antigonish and Morah Kerr of Greenfield, NS.
Tobins Fusion was a popular winner in his $6,130 assignment, and he did so in gate-to-wire fashion for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau. The son of Western Paradise-Hot Fusion took charge from the outset and after whacking out panels of :29.2, 1:01 and 1:31.1 he scooted home in :30.2 to seal the deal by 1-3/4 lengths in 2:01.3. Rebelseven was next best, with Arties Magic taking home the show dough.
Boyd Macdonald Prodce Ltd, Daniel Ross and Charles Seymour own the freshman who improved his record to 5-1-0 from seven starts with the victory. He’s managed to haul in purse earnings in excess of $15,000 in the process.
Elm Grove Inarush turned a two-hole trip into a narrow victory in the first division for the fillies. Gordon Hennessey tucked into the pocket spot with the Eddy Doucette trainee, and together they stalked Lovineveryminute through fractions of :30.1, 1:02 and 1:33 before popping the pocket and sprinting home in :28.2 en route to the win. Lovineveryminute, who was sent off as the odds-on favourite, had to settle for the runner-up award, with Sail Through finishing third.
Blaine Thibeau, Eddy Doucette, Gordon MacLeod and Grant Mann share ownership on the daughter of Coastocoast Yankee-Seawind Alpha. In seven starts she’s managed to assemble a 4-1-1 record while banking in excess of $18,000.
The final division for the fillies was declared a ‘no contest’ by the judges as a result of an accident which occurred early in the mile. Sea Anna Win interfered with Pictonian Sareta, causing that filly to fall in the turn and prompting the judges the declare the race a ‘no contest’.
There were no details available at the time of writing with regards to the condition of the horses and drivers involved in the accident.
