Sauble Claire Equals Decade-Old Record
Four-year-old pacing mare Sauble Claire matched a long-standing track record at Clinton Raceway on Sunday as she ran away from her rivals in the afternoon's fifth race.
Her 1:55.2 victory equalled the track record for aged pacing mares, which was originally set by Maddy Girl in the 2003 Summertime Series.
The popular Otis Hall trainee ran her win streak up to four with the record-setting mile in the race for $6,000 claiming mares.
With three-time Sunday winner Billy Davis Jr. aboard, Sauble Claire got away third from post eight through a :27.4 opening panel, which was put up by Four Starz Found (Anthony MacDonald). The 3-2 favourite edged by the early leader at the :56.4 half-mile mark and then began to draw away from the field. Sauble Claire held a six length advantage at the 1:25.4 third quarter mark and continued to pour it on down the stretch to post a final winning margin of 11-1/2 lengths. Tainted Money (Ryan Holliday) and Frequent Flyer (Trevor Henry) were the best of the rest.
Sauble Claire is a daughter of L H Stryker owned and bred by Sauble Hill Farms of Tara, Ont. Adding five wins to her resume this season, she now sports a record reading 12-5-5 in 40 starts with earnings totalling $129,338.
