Frosh Fillies In Friday Ohio Sires Stakes
On Friday, August 30, Northfield Park will host four divisions of Ohio Sires Stakes racing action as part of the 14-race program. This will be the fourth leg of the Sires Stakes for two-year-old fillies.
Filly trotters will start Friday’s stakes action in Race 1 for the $30,000 first division. In The Grippers (Steven One-Over Baked-Overcomer) starts from post five and has been named the 7-5 morning line favourite. She is owned by Herres Stables LLC of Bellbrook, Ohio and is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. Morgan has called upon Chris Page to drive. This filly has five lifetime starts, winning four times and placing once. She has a 1:58.4 lifetime mark trotted at Scioto Downs on August 1 and has earned $66,225. In The Grippers’ rivals consist of Sandys Victory, Majesty Dream, Rose Run Princess and Cookie N Ice Cream.
Race 2 will be the $30,000 first division for filly Ohio-bred pacers. Trainer Herb Levan will start Lucky L (Memphis Flash-Beach Sandals-Jenna’s Beach Boy) as the 3-1 slight morning line favourite. Lucky L starts from post six and faces five rivals. She has 18 starts, posting six wins and finishing second and third six and four times respectively. Lucky L has earned $33,899 and paced a 2:02.2 lifetime mark at the Allen County Fair on August 21. Jack Dailey is scheduled to drive for Woodstock, Ohio owner Melissa Levan. Shakin Friskie, APP Panda, Fayco Filly, Spiffy Sam, and R Spunky Girl complete the line-up.
Trotters return to the stage in Race 3 for the $30,000 second division Ohio Sire Stakes. Maes Perfect Storm (Neely Dunn-Salient-Ilooklikemymom) is the 2-1 morning line favourite for owner Charles Branthoover of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and trainer Robert Lippiatt. Maes Perfect Storm has seven previous races, posting two wins and two runner-up performances. She has earned $37,312 and trotted her 2:01.3 lifetime mark at Raceway Park in her most recent race on August 18. Driver Dan Noble will start the trotter from the rail in a field that consists of Greased, Emery Jean, Hush Hush Chip, Anniesbluejeanbaby and Not Dunn Dream’n.
Race 5 will host the final Ohio Sires Stake race of the evening with the $30,000 second division for filly pacers. Rosy Fire (Feelin Friskie-Justin Rose Jet-Jet Laag) is the 2-1 morning line favourite for owners Bret Schartz, William Lee Bean and Stephen Montemarano. Mark Winters Sr. trains the filly and uses Kyle Ater to drive. This freshman has raced eight times, posting three wins and three second place finishes. She has garnered $35,457 and scored her 1:58.2 career-best at Raceway Park in her most recent race on August 18. Rosy Fire starts from post four in a talented field consisting of Friskie Six, Crown Time Keeper, Friskies Angel, Ataway Samantha and Lady Julie.
