'Carleigh' & 'Julia' Win Prairie Lily Pace

Carleigh Cheyenne and Ms Julia Rose captured their respective divisions of the Standardbred Canada-sponsored Prairie Lily Pace on Friday evening at Yorkton Exhibition.

The Prairie Lily featured a pair of $3,000 divisions for aged pacing mares that are Canadian-sired and/or 100 per cent Canadian-owned.

Owned by trainer/driver Darryl and wife Sherri Mason of Killarney, MB, Carleigh Cheyenne went gate-to-wire to win the first division in 2:02.3 by a neck over the pocket-pulling Barbera, driven by Dallas McGee and trained by the Masons' daughter Paula. Gottaluckydeal and trainer/driver Cory Manning swept off cover to show just three-quarters of length behind.

The four-year-old Cheyenne Rey mare, who has been competing on the Manitoba Fair circuit this summer, earned her third win in a row and will attempt the grand slam in the MHHI Mares Stake eliminations on Sunday in Killarney, MB.

Ms Julia Rose rallied home from the backfield for a wide open 2:01.1 victory in the second division for Raymore, Saskatchewan horseman Brian Gray. A from-last Smileforthepicture and Manning finished over six lengths behind in second and Justabitfaster was third for the Masons.

The win was the fourth from nine starts at the Yorkton meet for the five-year-old daughter of Life Sign.

It was good to see a large crowd at Cornerstone Raceway for the Fri. night Bring a friend promo. Even some of our politicians showed up and I think enjoyed what they saw of our product.I am hoping to see racing here in our province again next year with expanded race days and slightly higher purses which should be the goal of all that have anything to do with Standardbred racing here in Saskatchewan. Congrats to Cornerstone for their efforts this year.
