Fort Erie Issues Termination Notices
It has been reported that all of the 130 employees of the Fort Erie Race Track have been handed termination notices, even though the historic thoroughbred raceway still has multiple race dates left on its current meet.
As a report by Niagara This Week explains, operators of the border oval had to hand out the same sort of termination notices near the end of the track's 2012 meet. The notices were handed out both this time and in 2012 due to the fact that the track does not --- and did not --- have confirmed race dates for the upcoming racing season. Officials are working behind the scenes to secure race dates for Fort Erie in 2014.
The article states that the Fort Erie Race Track has seen many positive across-the-board increases this year. According to the report, wagering is up 2.5 per cent, off-track wagering is up 11.5 per cent, food and beverage sales are up eight per cent and attendance is up dramatically as well.
The article states that the issuing of the termination notices is required under the employment contracts that are in place.
