Freshmen Continue Quebecoise Streaks
The Series Quebecoise continued on Sunday afternoon with a pair of two-year-olds remaining undefeated in racing action at Hippodrome 3R.
Trotting colt Maximuscle opened the card with his third series win for driver Mario Charron and trainer Eric Valiquette.
In the first of three $7,000 divisions, the Angus Hall colt worked his way to the lead from the outside post eight during a :29.2 first quarter. He then carved out middle splits of :59.4 and 1:32.2 en route to a 2:03.1 victory. Somoli E (Jerome Lombart) followed two lengths back in second from the pocket while third-place finisher Bouffon P V (Yves St. Jacques) trailed eight and half lengths behind.
Maximuscle is now four-for-six in his career with over $20,000 banked in purses for owner/breeder Ecurie Provoquante of Mirabel, Que. He also boasts an early season win in the Ontario Sires Stake Grassroots Series along with a recent fourth-place finish.
Pacing filly Champagne Shower also tripled up in the series for trainer Bertrand Ayotte and owner/breeder Sotirios Anastasopoulos of Sainte-Therese, Que.
Drawing post four for her third straight series event, the Santanna Blue Chip filly fired to the lead once again and cruised through fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:30.3 en route to the 2:01 triumph with Denis St. Pierre aboard. Pocket-sitter Raiponce (Mario Charron) followed one and a half lengths behind in second and C L Infinite (Marie Claude Auger) came on for third, finishing five and a half lengths behind.
Also a four-time winner in six career starts, Champagne Shower has earned over $20,000 in purses. She's also picked up cheques in a pair of OSS Grassroots and Gold events.
The pacing colt division was won by the maiden-breaking Vance Bayama and trainer/driver Yves Filion in 1:59 flat. He led at every call (:28.2, :57.4 and 1:28.2) while turning back first over Hall Bro (Stephane Brosseau) and holding off Eveil Dun Champion (Mario Charron) by half a length. Bali (Marie Claude Auger) finished third.
The homebred son of Four Starzz Shark, who was runner-up to Hall Bro in his other series start on Aug. 4, is owned by Bayama Farms Inc. of Saint-Andre-D'Argenteuil, Que. He now sports a 1-1-1 record in four starts with $8,450 in purses.
