Freshman Fillies Climb OSS Standings

Erin Hall and Valencia Sol took full advantage of the opportunity presented to them at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday evening.

With the top five fillies in the point standings on the sidelines for the fifth Grassroots event, both Erin Hall and Valencia Sol scored convincing victories that moved them up the rankings and into contention for a berth in the two-year-old trotting filly Grassroots Championship.

Valencia Sol and trainer-driver Greg Dustin employed come-from-behind tactics in the second Grassroots division, sprinting around the final turn to a one and one-half length victory in 2:02.2. The win was the Amigo Hall daughter’s second straight in Grassroots action and moved her into ninth spot in the point standings with 103.

Jackie Drysdale of Orangeville shares ownership of Valencia Sol with Darlene Hayes of Carlisle.

In the fourth $18,000 division, Erin Hall and driver Jody Jamieson opted to go straight to the front from post five and the duo cruised home unchallenged to a four and three-quarter length victory in 2:03.1.

Moffat resident Jamieson engineered the win for his father, trainer Carl Jamieson of Rockwood, his daughter, Hailey Jamieson of Cambridge, and their young partner, Mackenzie O’Sullivan of Cambridge. Erin Hall now has two wins, one third and one sixth to her credit through four Grassroots starts, putting the Deweycheatumnhowe daughter in sixth spot in the division standings with 115 points.

The other Grassroots divisions were captured by first-time winners Supreme Monarch in 2:02, Tosca in 2:02.1 and Charstruck in 2:04.4.
