E W Fisher Repeats In Preferred
Trainer/driver Rick Zeron made a round trip to the winner’s circle with on of his star students, E W Fisher, in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Mohawk Racetrack.
The fleet-footed gelding, who produced 1:52.4 speed to win last week’s trotting feature, managed to go a full second slower en route to winning tonight’s assignment.
Zeron rolled E W Fisher to the early lead, and after parking past the first quarter in :28.3 he crossed down to the rail and laid down middle panels of :58 and 1:26.2. He uncorked a :27.2 closing quarter and drew clear to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Take My Picture, with Charlie Is A Joker third in the eight-horse affair.
Sent off as the 8-5 choice, the six-year-old son of Fool Me Not-La Delicatesse improved this year’s record to 6-3-5 from 23 trips to the track. The 17-time winner, who is owned by Lise Lang of Port Perry, ON and Saul Mendelson of Montreal, QC, has stashed away $135,470 this year and more than $275,000 to date.
