Killarney Hosts MSSBA Futurity Elims
Three-year-old pacing colts Reys N A Commotion and Charming Design each remained undefeated in Manitoba stakes action this year with victories in Saturday's MSSBA Futurity elimination at Killarney.
Both colts entered the elimination round with a pair of MSSBA Golden Boy Stakes victories to their credit.
Reys N A Commotion was a gate-to-wire winner in his elimination over filly Throw The Bouquet and Roland Rey. Driver and co-owner Don Howlett sent the streaking Reys N A Commotion to the lead from post one and the Armbro Trench-Thundrabird colt cruised through fractions of :30.3, 1:01.3 and 1:33 en route to the 2:02.3 triumph over the "good" surface. Another filly, Heartland Rosebud (Darryl Mason), finished third.
Richard Rey trains and bred Reys N A Commotion, who is shared in ownership by Trevor and Michael Williams of Winnipeg, MB. The colt has earned five wins and two seconds in seven seasonal starts.
Charming Design converted off a pocket trip to win his elimination for horseman Dean Rey. Mb Swamp Donkey and Howlett led the field through early fractions of :30.1 and 1:01.1 before Charming Design advanced to command by the 1:32.4 third quarter station. Hands Down and Michel Rey were rallying wide, but that colt broke stride and had to settle for runner-up honours two and three-quarter lengths behind the 2:04.1 winner. Another Great Pick and Roland Rey finished third.
The homebred Charms Shark-Divine Design colt is now four-for-five in his debut season.
