Eye-Catching Mile For Luck Be Withyou
If owner John Craig’s phone wasn’t ringing off the hook last week, it certainly will be this week thanks to Luck Be Withyou’s jaw dropping victory Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack.
The two-year-old son of Western Ideal, who was purchased by Craig for $77,000 from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale, posted a 10-1 upset when he broke his maiden at Mohawk on July 26. He stopped the clock that night in 1:52.4. He chopped a full second off the mark in Monday’s assignment, and in doing so he upset the apple cart at odds of 19-1.
Phil Hudon got away third with the Bill Cass trainee, but he had him on the move in the backstretch. He swept from third to first in a matter of strides, and after slicing out middle fractions of :56 and 1:23.4 the pacer rocketed home in :27.4 to stop the clock in 1:51.3 en route to defeating For A Bettor Time and the previously undefeated Idealbeach Hanover.
The 1:51.3 clocking was new lifetime mark for Luck Be Withyou, who matched the North American season’s record in the process. The time matched the standard set earlier this year by Jet Airway at The Meadowlands and the performance turned in by Lets Drink On It at Pocono Downs.
The colt is out of the 100% producing mare Trim Hanover, who now has a trio of 1:52 performers to her credit. In addition to Luck Be Withyou she’s also foaled American Jewel (1:48.2 - $1,834,823) and Source Of Pride (1:50.4 – $119,047).
