Wild Dragon Kicks Off Premier's Series
The first leg of the Premier’s Pacing Series headlined the 12-dash card program Sunday at Red Shores Summerside.
Wild Dragon won the first division of the Premier’s Pace for driver Gilles Barrieau in 1:54.2. Barrieau, who made three trips to winner’s circle on the day, handled the assignment for trainer Darren Trainor and his co-owner wife Jennifer Trainor of Vernon River, P.E.I. The Governor’s Plate champion beat McApulco (Walter Cheverie) for his 20th career win. Greatheart Hanover (Stephen Quinn) was third.
Lucky Encounter made a sweeping move as the field turned for home to win the second division of the Premier’s Pace in an exciting stretch drive for Walter Cheverie. Foxyhall Racing Stable of Summerside, P.E.I. owns the five-year-old gelding, who flashed a closing quarter of :28.4 to seal the deal in 1:54.4. Dale Sobey is the winning trainer. Touch of Lightning (Earl Smith) and Cambest Kisser (Jason Hughes) completed the triactor.
Jason Hughes also had a driving hat trick.
