NYSS Frosh Fillies Highlight Tioga Card
Three divisions of New York Sire Stakes for two-year-old filly trotters highlighted an 11-race card on Saturday night at Tioga Downs.
Leading the way for the filly trotters was Crediama (Jim Marohn Jr.) in the third and final division of the night.
Leaving from post position number four in a field of seven, Marohn put Crediama on the front end and put up all the fractions of :29.1, :59, and 1:28 before turning for home. Deep in the stretch it looked as though Beauty Of Gray (Jim Meittinis) may collar the leader on the wire, but Crediama fought tough and survived a photo to score her maiden victory in 1:57.4.
Trond Smedshammer trains the two-year-old daughter of Credit Winner out of Mama B for the Purple Haze Stable of Fairport, New York.
Other division winners included: Share My Secret (Conway Hall–Lawn Tennis) and Jim Marohn Jr. in 1:59.3 for Trond Smedshammer; and Annies List (Conway Hall–Anns Promise) and Andy Miller in 1:58 for Julie Miller.
Tioga also held four divisions of Excelsior stakes and the winners were: Brookside Lily (Sean Bier) in 2:00.4; Caroline Street (Jim Meittinis) in 2:02; Trish (Cat Manzi) in 2:01.4; and Sweet Jesse T (Cat Manzi) in 2:00.
Aruba Vacation and Fern Paquet Jr. captured Saturday night’s $16,000 Open Handicap Trot in 1:54.4 for trainer Guy Howard. With the victory, the homebred son of Dream Vacation and Dixie Hit vaulted his career earnings to more than $500,000.
