Alberta Downs A Reality?
According to a report yesterday in the Lacombe Globe, much headway has been made recently which would see the proposed Alberta Downs in Lacombe County become a reality
.
The article states that plans for the project were recently given more room to run ahead with Lacombe County signing a critical development agreement and giving approval to a pair of bylaw amendments necessary for the track to move ahead on a 142-acre site back from the junction of Hwy 12 and the QEII.
One bylaw rezoned the former agriculture land and the other amends county bylaws to allow for a racing entertainment centre, which would include slot machines and is an important component of the $8-to-$10-million project.
If approved, the racetrack could be in limited operation before spring and has the potential for limited racing in April or early May.
