Steacy And Simard On Fire At Rideau
There was no stopping trainer Mark Steacy and driver Richard Simard during Thursday evening’s 12-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Steacy sent out three winners, and all three of them had their winning trips mapped out by Simard. He tacked on another catch-driving score for good measure in what turned out to be a profitable night at the office.
Simard kicked off the card taking the opener with the Gerald Lamarche-trained Last Run. The four-year-old daughter of Armbro Deuce turned in a 1:58 score at odds of 5-1.
Simard and Steacy clicked in Race 5 with Brandis Hanover, a three-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover who powered to a six-length win in 1:55.4. They came right back to take Race 6 with the three-year-old Muscle Mass gelding, Northern Matador, in a time of 2:00.2. They were back to victory lane in Race 8 with the three-year-old Majestic Son gelding, Olympus Hanover, who roared away from his foes to win by 8-1/4 lengths in 2:00.2.
The four win performance for Simard leaves him just six wins shy of 5,500 career wins and it helped add to the $30 million in lifetime earnings he’s managed to rack up since he began his driving career back in 1982.
As for Steacy, the three-win performance pushed his lifetime win total to 1,286 and it bumped his career bankroll to $15,967,677. His stable has managed to bank in excess of $1 million in purse earnings for eight consecutive seasons.
