Veteran, Youngster To Square Off At CDP
Veteran pacer Outlawpositivcharg will face off with some younger competition Thursday night at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7:00 p.m.
Race 12 will feature nine-year-old Outlawpositivcharg, who has drawn Post 7 in the $1,950, eight-horse showdown. Terry Gallant will drive the son of Blissfull Hall for trainer Thane Mann and owner Fred Lamont of Calgary. From Post 2 is Astronomical Union, who has been sharp so far in his four-year-old campaign. He will be driven by Mark Bradley for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reginald MacPherson of Stratford. Another real threat comes from the rail in Camcun, who will have Jason Hughes in the bike, subbing in for trainer Kenny Arsenault, who is racing in Truro that night. Other entries are Samba Hanover (to be driven by Norman Myers), Windemere Nancy (Mike McGuigan), Matt Trapper (Brian Andrew), Artners In Crime (Ron Matheson), and Panacotta (Blaine Baglole).
Zip The Lip is likely to go off as the favourite from Post 5 in Race 4, the $1,300 trot class, for driver Brian MacPhee, trainer Donald Sweet and owner The Estate of Melvin Willis. The speedy trotter just posted a qualifying win in 1:59.4 on Saturday in Charlottetown, but had been plagued with breaking problems in his previous starts. He will look for redemption Thursday, but will join up with respectable company, including Saulsbrook Balance (Willie Murphy) from Post 2 and Duvar Road (Myers) from Post 7. Other entries include Mile Hill Belle (Paul Morrison), Scarlet Patti (Darryl MacLean), BJ Eldorado (Walter Cheverie), BJ High Meadow (Bert Honkoop), and Diamond Mine (Bradley).
Race 7, the $1,550 back-up class, features Governor’s Plate finalist First Art Down, favoured from Post 6 with driver Cheverie, trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Bruce Wood of Marshfield. The son of Articulator posted a mile in 1:55.2 over Summerside Raceway while finishing sixth in the $22,000 Governor’s Plate final. His biggest challenges look to come from Ultimate Faith (Hughes) and Pembroke Fella (MacPhee).
Live racing continues on P.E.I. with a card Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in Charlottetown and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Summerside with the first leg of the Erwin Andrew Memorial for aged trotting mares.
