Michael 'Mike' Brady Passes

Trot Insider has learned that racehorse owner Michael 'Mike' Brady of Sherwood Park, Alberta passed away on Saturday, July 20 at the age of 88 while embraced by the love of his family.

Brady was a good man who lived a full life. He was born to a family of 10 on a farm near Selby, Ont. He moved to Edmonton with his wife, Vicki, and son, Michael, in 1961.

After a successful career in auto sales, Mike 'retired' some 30 years ago to realize his dream of owning harness horses. Again, success followed him with many great horses, including Pollution, Alberta's Mare of the Year in 1983 and 1984, Soul Chaser, Fire Within K, Larry Birdwatcher and many others.

Mike and Vicki also were involved in the restaurant business and owned Brady's Fine Foods, and later Brady's Steak & Burger Place. Mike had a great story, poem, or song to share with friends and family. The 'salesman's address' and 'the face on the barroom floor' were two of the best known in his repertoire.

Mike will be forever missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Vicki, his only son, Michael and partner, Taryn Troyer, as well as his three beloved granddaughters Alyssa, Delaney, and Morgan.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, south of Wye Road on Range Road 232, Sherwood Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Mike Brady.
