New Owners Seminar Slated For Scioto

There’s never been a better time to own a harness horse in Ohio, and prospective owners have a chance to learn from experts during a seminar at Scioto Downs on Saturday, August 17.

The seminar is presented by the Ohio State Racing Commission, Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, Scioto Downs, and the U.S. Trotting Association. Dean A. Hoffman, representing the Ohio State Racing Commission, will be the moderator.

Attendees will have a hands-on opportunity to meet a horse in the paddock and to become familiar with equipment and training methods. The program will also include a presentation by Steve McCoy, an attorney, owner, and president of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, about forms of ownership, tax considerations, and the owner’s perspective.

Jerry Knappenberger of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association will speak about the owner-trainer relationship. Trainers based at Scioto Downs will also speak from their perspective.

The event will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will be held in the south end of the Scioto Downs clubhouse. The event will end at 6:00 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to stay for the live racing program which begins 30 minutes later.

The cost is $20 per person and each attendee will receive a $20 food voucher for use at Scioto Downs.

Reservations are due by Monday, August 12 and should be made by calling Linda Nance, Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association at 614-221-3650 or emailing her at [email protected].
