Snowshoe Second Leg Preview
Carat Hanover is set to shine again on Friday, as the second round of the Snowshoe Pacing Series for three and four-year-old colts and geldings is set to get underway at Woodbine Racetrack.
During the opening leg, Carat Hanover, trained by Tony O’Sullivan, pulled away from his competition to sail home under wraps, four and a half lengths to the good over Paydaze A Comin, in 1:56. It was the second win in a row for the four-year-old son of Bettors Delight, who will enjoy the return of his regular pilot, Rick Zeron, in the $20,000 Snowshoe second round.
Carat Hanover is the 5-2 morning line favourite in the second of two Snowshoe splits on Friday night (Race 8, 9:50 p.m.) and will be leaving from Post 6.
In the opening split (Race 5, 8:50 p.m.), Windsun Twister will also be looking for a repeat win. Trained and co-owned by Al Hamilton of Flesherton, Ontario, the gelded son of Camotion enjoyed just his third lifetime visit to the winner’s circle last week, and posted a new lifetime speed mark of 1:54.1 in the process.
Windsun Twister will be up against Mark Austin’s Herestopatrick, who was a well-beaten fourth in last week’s Snowshoe contest won by Carat Hanover, but prior to that won impressively in the $40,100 finale of the Ontario Sired Autumn Series on December 8, 2008.
The $45,000 (estimated) final of the Snowshoe Pacing Series is scheduled for Friday, January 16.
