Trot Insider has learned that trotting mare Ramerizi has passed away at the age of 26.

The unfashionably-bred daughter of Face To Face and pacing mare Terrys Girl Penny, Ramerizi was one of the most popular trotters on the Ontario Jockey Club in the early 1990s. Purchased for just $500, Ramerizi got her career started later than most when owner Bill Burleigh took care of the mare for his neighbour as a favour.

In 1992 at the age of five under the guidance of trainer Gord Rayner, Ramerizi rose the elite free-for-all ranks at Greenwood and Mohawk, racing against and winning multiple FFA trots while competing with the likes of Billyjojimbob, No Sex Please, Earl, Lifetime Dream and Impeccable Image. Her Cinderella season in 1992 was capped by an O'Brien Award as Canada's Older Trotting Mare of the Year.

Ramerizi continued to compete at the top level for the next three seasons before being feted with an official retirement ceremony at Mohawk as well as leading the post parade for the 1995 Maple Leaf Trot. She retired with 29 wins, more than $433,000 in purses and a mark of 1:56.4 taken at age seven at Woodbine.

The trotting talent was passed on through to her fastest son, Misterizi, who established a 1:51 world record for aged trotting stallions in the 2008 Nat Ray. Misterizi earned nearly $600,000 before being exported downunder and passing away in 2011.

In addition to Misterizi, daughters of Ramerizi have demonstrated an ability to produce top trotters as she is the grand dam of Majestic Son ($1.99 million), Striking Lindsey ($587,000) and Loose Change Louie ($437,000).
