Undefeated Filly Impressive In PASS
Could Gallie Bythe Beach be a champion in the making? By the looks of her dominant 1:52.2 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes win at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Thursday (July 12) afternoon, the two-year-old filly packs a lot of punch, possesses a lot of potential, and shows promise for a prosperous career.
The daughter of Somebeachsomewhere was sent off the 1-2 favourite in her $57,227 Sire Stakes division, leaving from post five in a scratch-reduced field of six. Floating forward off the gate, Hall of Fame driver John Campbell ducked Gallie Bythe Beach behind early pacesetters Talkative (Andy Mille) and That Woman Hanover (Mike Wilder), tracking a :27.4 first quarter before brushing effortlessly to the fore with a circuit to go. Despite only making her third career start, she coasted through a :55.2 half breaking nary a sweat — and facing only a mild challenge on the far turn.
On the backstretch, Rustys Bliss (Corey Callahan) commenced a first-over bid, but made minimal impact on Gallie Bythe Beach, barely gaining into a joint second while Gallie Bythe Beach reached three-quarters in a remarkable 1:23.3. From that point on, she asserted her dominance, opening up at head-stretch entirely on her own, pulling clear to win by three and three-quarter lengths under heavy John Campbell restraint in 1:52.2. Talkative held second from the pocket, and Put On A Display (Tim Tetrick) swung three-wide off a stalled Rustys Bliss to make a mild gain into third.
