Proven Lover Romps In Gov’s Plate Elim
Veteran pacer Proven Lover was sent off as the 1-9 favourite in Monday’s Governor’s Plate elimination at Summerside Raceway, and he drew away from the foes he faced while putting a smile on the many faces that sent him off as the overwhelming choice in the seven-horse affair.
With Terry Gallant at the controls, Proven Lover got away second in the $5,000 tilt while Windemere Express hustled to the top and supplied the field with an opening quarter clocked in :27.2. Proven Lover shot to the lead in front of the grandstand, and he cleared without much of a tussle. He stole away with middle panels of :58.1 and 1:27.3 before using a :27.2 kicker to seal the deal by four lengths over Nakai Hanover in 1:55. Mcapulco took home third prize.
Thane Mann trains the nine-year-old son of Real Desire-Loving Proof for owner Casey Gavin of Tignish, PEI. It was the fourth win of the year for the 24-time winner who boosted his overall earnings past $450,000 in the process.
Monday’s card also featured a set of $2,250 elims for the late closer for open fillies and mares.
General Luckypercy notched a 1:55.2 victory in the first elimination for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Jackie Matheson. She battled on the lead for a good portion of the mile before she eventually ducker for some cover. The summoned up :29-second closing speed en route to winning by close to four lengths over Doober Hoozzitz, with Ovation Killean a distant third.
The seven-year-old daughter of Blissfull Hall-Periella Hanover, who is owned by Jodilyn Shepherd of Cambridge, ON and Jack Brown of Stratford, PEI is now a 36-time winner who has banked just shy of $180,000 in her career.
Dirt Track Momma front-stepped her way to a 1:57 tally in the other elimination for the duo of driver Kenny Arsenault and trainer Neal Moase. She sped the field through fractions of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:28.2 before blasting home in :28.3 to secure the win over Bunny Mach and J J Maywest.
The 8-5 winner drew clear to win by 2-1/4 lengths for owner Jonah Moase of Cornwall, PEI, The five-year-old daughter of E Dees Cam-Gushing Grace is 9-for-24 this season and a 14-time winner. She’s quickly closing in on $60,000 in lifetime earnings.
