Local Fillies Looking For Luck Thursday

Ontario Sires Stakes excitement rolls into Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday, July 11 with three Gold Series divisions for the two-year-old pacing fillies.

Early season winners Alibi Seelster and Brickyard Val will be looking to jump out in front of their peers with a second Gold Series victory, but both fillies will be hampered by an outside post. Alibi Seelster, with Paul MacDonell in the race bike for trainer Jack Darling, will start from Post 6 in the first $70,000 division while Brickyard Val, piloted by Jody Jamieson for his father Carl Jamieson, gets Post 6 in the second split.

Joining Brickyard Val in the second division is local filly Champagne Shower, who will benefit from Post 1 and the services of top Rideau Carleton reinsman Denis St. Pierre. The daughter of Santanna Blue Chip and $300,202 winner Flyingtomoon Rayno was a third-place finisher in the Grassroots season opener at Georgian Downs on July 2 and will be looking for a successful outing against the top tier fillies over her hometown oval.

Bertrand Ayotte conditions Champagne Shower for owner-breeder Sotirios Anastasopoulos of Sainte-Therese, QC and prepped the filly for her Ontario Sires Stakes debut with an overnight event at Rideau Carleton on June 20 where she recorded a 1:59.1 victory.

Kay J Jet made an error in the June 20 contest won by Champagne Shower and finished sixth, then delivered a sixth-place effort in a Gold Series division at Mohawk Racetrack on July 1. The Jeremes Jet daughter will be looking to improve on that result from Post 2 in the third division on Thursday.

Stephane Pouliot trains and drives Kay J Jet for Meadowgem Farm of Osgoode, ON and 9096 9205 Quebec Inc. of St. Henri de Levis, QC. A $6,000 acquisition from last fall’s Canadian Yearling Sale, Kay J Jet is a half-sister to $645,750 winner Hypnotist and former Grassroots winners Brittash ($217,679) and Quiet Flight ($212,007).

Rideau Carleton Raceway’s first race rolls in behind the starting gate at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 and the two-year-old pacing fillies will show off their already impressive skills in Races 2, 4 and 8.
