Governor's Plate Ready To Kick Off
Red Shores Summerside's signature event of the summer is ready to roll as Lobster Carnival Week racing starts Sunday featuring the first elimination of the Governor’s Plate.
First-race post time is 1:00 p.m. The second Governor’s Plate elimination is Monday night. First-race post time for that card is 7:00 p.m.
Chasin Racin has drawn the rail in the first elimination for trainer Earl Watts and owners Jamie MacKinley of Cornwall, PE and Jody and Larissa Sanderson. Kenny Arsenault, who won the 'Plate' with Serious Damage in 2011, has been given the driving assignment. Chasin Racin finished third in the Ladner final and is a strong closer.
Wild Dragon will be the one to beat. The son of Dragon Again-Wild Helen was super impressive in his Island debut at Summerside when driver Gilles Barrieau stalked Proven Lover last week through hot fractions and beat him in the stretch with a sharp :28.4 final quarter to win in a stunning 1:54.4. Conditioner Darren Trainer, who co-owns the newcomer with his wife, Jennifer, will have him ready from Post 3 on what weather forecasters are saying to be a very hot sunny afternoon at the Prince County Oval. Proven Lover won’t be racing Sunday, as Casey Gavin’s pacing superstar will compete in the second elimination on Monday. Many expect when these two meet in the final the track record will fall and fall hard.
The rest of field is filled with talent, which includes Greatheart Hanover from the Foxyhall Racing Stable of Summerside, multiple plate winner Outlawpositivcharg, heavy hitter All Turain, former stakes star Touch of Lightning and pacing star Balanchine.
The top four finishers from each elimination will compete in the 45th running of the Governor’s Plate, which will be contested for a purse of $22,000. The race will be presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge on Saturday July 13, 2013.

Artners In Crime Meets Capitalism & Matt Trapper In CDP Feature
Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park will stage one last card Saturday at 6:00 p.m. before all the action shifts to Red Shores Summerside for Lobster Carnival Week racing on Sunday.
The 12-dash card will feature a $2,100 top class with Artners In Crime off the rail for trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Bobbi Jo Gaudet of Charlottetown. Ronald Matheson will be in the bike.
The 5-2 morning line favorite, who has four wins from eleven starts this season, will take on Capitalism from the Tommy Collings Stable of Mount Stewart from Post 4, while Matt Trapper, a strong triactor candidate, will start from Post 3 for driver Brian Andrew and his co-owners William Andrew, Jim MacPhail and George Rogers of Alberta. Trainer Mitchel Tierney will send out newcomer Inspired Art in the race with Pownal Bay Mustang and Nobestbfor completing the field.
