Mohawk Qualifier Recap
A quartet of two-year-old dashes helped comprise Mohawk Racetrack's 11-race qualifying docket Wednesday, July 3 at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
With driver Chris Matthews calling the shots, the Gregg McNair-trained Unique Rock N Roll was the first of the two-year-old winners, as the daughter of Rocknroll Hanover recorded a one-length, off-the-pace victory in 1:58.3 in Race 1.
Race 2 saw the Stephane Larocque-trained and Sylvain Filion-driven freshman Glory Beach charge to a commanding 14-length win. The Somebeachsomewhere colt led at every call and marched to the win in a time of 1:56.1.
The baby barrage continued in Race 3, as Tyrone Haji was a resounding winner for driver Randy Waples and trainer Bob McIntosh. The Kadabra colt grabbed the lead in the lane and trotted off to an eight and three-quarter-length victory in 2:03.1.
The final two-year-old race of the morning (Race 4) saw the pairing of Matthews and McNair team up for victory once again, as Wanna Rock N Roll was first to the wire in 1:58.2. The Rocknroll Hanover filly made every poll a winning one before hanging on for the one and a quarter-length victory.
