'Angie' Hoping For Hometown Win
Hometown sweetheart Angies Lucky Star will be looking to pick up her first Ontario Sires Stakes win of the season when the three-year-old trotting fillies arrive at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday, July 3.
The only filly able to keep pace with Bee A Magician in her record-setting mile at Mohawk Racetrack in the June 24 season opener, Angies Lucky Star faces an easier test over her local oval on Tuesday, starting from Post 5 in the first $70,000 Gold leg. Arthur, Ont. resident Trevor Henry, who shares ownership of the filly with the Estate of Daniel McCann, will be back in the race bike behind the filly for the first time since her season debut in May.
Henry and his wife Shannon handed Angies Lucky Star over to trainer Richard Moreau and driver Sylvain Filion before heading to France for the World Driving Championship in early June. While her owners were away, the Angus Hall daughter won her Elegantimage elimination with a 1:53.1 personal-best clocking and then finished second by a head to Bee A Magician in the final.
Through six starts this season, Angies Lucky Star boasts a record of two wins, three seconds and one third.
Among the fillies hoping to challenge Angies Lucky Star for supremacy in the first division are Gold leg winner Anaffairtoremember from Post 3, Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association Stake runner-up Charmed Life from Post 6 and Grassroots division winner Lady Bling from Post 8.
The three-year-old trotting fillies compete in Races 3, 5 and 9 on Grand River Raceway’s Wednesday, July 3 program, which gets under way at 7:05 p.m.
