Camille Prevails In Philly Feature
World record holder Camille managed to keep the pylon-skimming Anndrovette at bay on Wednesday to win the afternoon's featured $30,000 Winners Over Handicap Pace at Harrah's Philadelphia.
Driver Yannick Gingras sent the Ontario-bred and sired daughter of Camluck to the lead from the outside post seven over the two-time defending divisional champion during a :27.2 opening panel before taking a second quarter breather to the half-mile mark, which was clocked in :56.3. Camille then closed out the mile with a pair of :27.2 final quarters, reaching the third station in 1:24 and holding off the pocket-pulling Anndrovette (Tim Tetrick) down the stretch to win in 1:51.2. The five-year-old mare, who entered the race off a world record 1:48.3 victory in the Artiscape Pace on June 9 at Tioga Downs, paid $6.40 to win as the 2-1 second choice. Favourite Anndrovette finished half a length behind in second while third choice Royal Cee Cee N (Ron Pierce) advanced from last to place.
Camille is now a perfect two-for-two at Harrah's Philadelphia having won her only other start at the Chester, Pennsylvania oval on June 8, 2012. She is six-for-10 on the year and boasts 26 wins on her lifetime record with purse earnings climbing to $948,802.
Trainer Ron Burke co-owns the winner (as Burke Racing Stable LLC) with Weaver Bruscemi LLC, M1 Stable LLC, and Jack Piatt.
