Crackers Hot Shot Wins Alberta Princess
The trip was sweet and the payday was even sweeter for Crackers Hot Shot, who took home the lion’s share of the $55,100 purse offered in Saturday afternoon’s ABSS Alberta Princess Final for three-year-old pacing fillies at Alberta Downs.
With Bill Tainsh, Jr. at the controls, Crackers Hot Shot slipped into the two-hole behind Emotions Run Wild. That foe chopped out splits of :28 and :58.3 over a track listed as ‘good’ before Crackers Hot Shot took her shot. Tainsh called on her to go first-over against Emotions Run Wild, who maintained a short lead at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.2. Crackers Hot Shot edged away in the lane and eventually drew clear to win by 4-1/4 lengths over Emotions Run Wild in 1:57.2. Third prize was earned by Kiss My Crouper.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite in the eight-filly affair, Crackers Hot Shot improved this year’s record to a perfect 4-for-4 after going 5-for-7 in last year’s rookie season. The career winner of $90,211 is owned by Rod Starkewski of Lamont, AB.
