NYSS Stops At Vernon Saturday

The New York Sires Stakes will make a stop at Vernon Downs on Saturday night (June 22). A total of 18 three-year-old pacing fillies and $133,000 in purses will be split into two equal parts. The dashes have been carded as Race 6 and Race 7.

The first division features two fillies on a similar course from distinctly different beginnings. In 2012, Summertime Lea won eight of her nine races, including the NYSS final, and banked nearly $300,000 for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Rcg Stb and Weaver Bruscemi, F. Baldachino and E. Smith. The Lislea filly has pretty much picked up where she left off in 2012, and has won three of her four starts so far this season, including a division of the NYSS at Tioga Downs on June 9. She'll begin from Post 9 for driver Jim Morrill Jr.

On the other hand, JK Black Beauty raced just twice last season and won both starts. She was brought to the races early this year by trainer Linda Toscano to gain experience and picked up the vaunted Lismore trophy at Yonkers Raceway last month. That is her lone win in four tries this year for the 3 Brothers Stables of New York, New York. Jeff Gregory has the driving assignment.

Division 2 features the lightly-raced Social Scene, who's been nothing short of spectacular thus far this season. This American Ideal filly, winless in just three starts last year, has won three of four starts this season, including a sizzling 1:51.2 win at Tioga Downs in a NYSS race two weeks ago. Casie Coleman trains her for West Wins Stable, Steve Calhoun and Mac Nichol. Jonathan Drury will be performing the driving duties.

First post on Saturday is 6:50 p.m.
