Smith Named Honourary Governor Of 'The Royal'

Longtime horse owner and industry participant Glen Smith has been named Honourary Governor of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

Many would recognize Smith, who owns Merit Insurance and is married to Village Acres' Caroline Armstrong, as being a bid spotter at past Standardbred Canada horse sales.

“He continues to be an excellent example for others to follow (in terms of) volunteering, showing and sponsorship," said former Royal Agricultural Winter Fair President Byron Beelor. "It seemed to me that he was an obvious choice to become an honourary governor of the Royal.”

“I can tell you that I know very few people of such integrity. Glen Smith is from a rare breed of men whose comportment and behaviour has always been exemplary,” said Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Director Jim McClocklin.

Beelor and McClocklin's comments regarding Smith came in a recent article by the Flamborough Review.
