Meadows Cancels Final Six Races
Exploiting a hot pace on a softening track, Pair A Dice rallied third over to pull off a 22-1 shocker in Tuesday’s $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at the Meadows.
A three-ply speed duel featuring Hickory Big Red, R Caan and Object of Art resulted in fractions of :26.4 and :55.1 over a surface under siege by rain. That was the signal for the back markers to move. The second-over Lonesome Attack got the jump in the lane, but Pair A Dice, under Eric Ledford’s urging, edged him by a head in 1:51.4. Hickory Big Red saved show.
Jack Smith trains Pair A Dice, a seven-year-old Cams Card Shark-Heirloom gelding who now boasts $343,887 in career earnings for Thomas Mucci.
Pair A Dice’s win was the last of the day, as the storm forced the cancellation of the final six races on the scheduled 15-race card. Live racing resumes Wednesday at the Meadows at 6:55 p.m.
