Premium Attaction Wins By Double-Digits
Alberta's reigning divisional leader Premium Attaction was a runaway on the field of three-year-old pacing colts, taking his Alberta Plainsman elimination by more than 10 lengths on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Alberta Downs.
Kicking off their Alberta Sires Stakes season, 17 sophomore colts and geldings faced off in a pair of $10,000 eliminations with Premium Attaction going from a 10 length deficit to a 10 length surplus throughout the mile.
After getting away seventh from a second tier post nine start, 3-5 favourite Premium Attaction swept to command past the half-mile mark and opened up daylight on the field to score in 1:55.3. At odds of 22-1, As Ruled (Philip Giesbrecht) gave trainer Kelly Hoerdt, who drove the winner, a one-two finish in that elimination. Cenalta Octane (Ryan Grundy), Attitude Adjuster (Brandon Campbell) and Cool Eyes (Don Monkman Jr.) rounded out the top five finishers.
Premium Attaction, an Adios Pick division winner in his last start on June 2, paid $3.20 to win.
Hoerdt co-owns the Clintons Cigar-Maneattacktion with Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. He now boasts eight wins in 12 starts with earnings totalling $95,891.
The other elimination went to the Glenn Lutz-trained Blue Star Admiral in wire-to-wire fashion.
With Bill Tainsh Jr. in the sulky, the post three starter went all the way to win in a matching time of 1:55.3 with a final quarter clocked in :27.4. Tip Top Tap (Rod Hennessy) rallied late to place one and a half lengths behind while Outlaw Falcon (J.F. Gagne) was third four and a half lengths back. Tinhorn Creek (Gerry Hudon) and Play Me Right (Brandon Campbell) finished back in fourth and fifth.
Also an Adios Pick winner, the favourite returned $3.20 to his backers.
William and Dianne Neish of High River, Alta. share ownership of the Camystic-Movin Uptown colt, who has a 6-6-2 record in 15 career starts and earnings of $75,198.
Earlier in the day, Flak Jacket overcame an outside post position to win his fourth $8,500 Open Handicap Pace in a row in 1:53.4 over Outlaw Highvoltage (Giesbrecht) and Mr Saratoga (Quentin Schneider), who finished second in a dead-heat three and three-quarter lengths behind. Trainer/driver Jamie Gray, Fred Gilbert, Neil Malloch, and Richard Osterbeck co-own the six-year-old son of Brandons Cowboy, who paid $4.90 to win as the favourite.
