Hanover Hosts Molson Men’s Night
Saturday night, a large crowd enjoyed the 10-race card at Hanover Raceway, billed as Molson Men’s Night to celebrate Father’s Day weekend.
Fans packed the grandstand for great racing and thousands of dollars in prizes courtesy of Molson Coors Canada, that were awarded to fathers in attendance.
On the track, Winter Blues turned in the fastest mile of the summer, with an eye-catching performance in the Hanover Rona Mile. The eight-year-old Astreos gelding reached the front at the quarter-mile marker after clearing local favourite My Friend Diaz, driven by Ross Battin. Those two separated themselves from the field for the majority of the race, and at the three-quarter station My Friend Diaz looked to be gearing up to make a challenge. However, driver J Harris flipped the switch and Winter Blues kicked home a :28.3 final quarter to win in 1:53.4 for owner-trainer Ian Reid.
The win was the third of the season for Winter Blues, and a new seasonal best clocking. My Friend Diaz finished five and a half lengths back in second, while My Perfect Heart and Otis Hall was third.
Hanover Raceway returns with live racing Saturday, June 22 with the annual Pepsi Night, featuring the Pepsi Mile, samples of Pepsi products, and thousands of dollars in prizes for fans of all ages.
Hanover Raceway and Country 93 Radio have also teamed up on the track's second handicapping contest of the summer. Survivor will have fans pick a horse in four races in a row. Those that go four-for-four will have a chance to win a great TV package, tickets to Music in the Fields, or a Golf package at Cobble Beach north of Owen Sound. Post time at Hanover Raceway next Saturday is 7:30 p.m.
