'Lucky' Takes Top Class At Summerside
Lucky Encounter won the afternoon $1,700 feature event in a dazzling 1:56.4 Sunday at Red Shores Summerside.
Alex Sobey did the driving for the FoxyHall Racing stable of Wallace, N.S. Dale Sobey was the winning trainer.
Alex Sobey put the son of Camluck into the outside flow en route to the half as favourite Chasin Racin (Terry Gallant) laid down early fractions of :28 and :57.3 before Lucky Encounter took over command of the field with the third panel flashing up in a fast 1:27. The newcomer cruised home in :29.4 to seal the deal over a fast-closing Capitalism (Jason Hughes) while Lisfinny (Norris Rogers) completed the triactor. The 1-6-4 combination paid $31.90.
Laughing Xample, with Terry Gallant in the bike, wired the field in the sixth race to win the Easter Seals Pace in 2:01.1 for owner David Woodington of Kensington, P.E.I. and trainer Thane Mann. Gallant and the winning connections greeted Easter Seals ambassador Paxton Cole in the winner's circle for the trackside cooler presentation.
Gallant and Mann also teamed up to win with Brand Of My Own for owners Albert Gamble of Breadalbane, P.E.I. and Glenda Chappell of Stanley Bridge, P.E.I.
Walter Cheverie recorded a driving triple on the card while Mark Bradley posted two winners on the afternoon.
Racing returns to Summerside next Sunday at 1 p.m.
