Longtime race fan June Fritsch celebrated her birthday on Saturday and Hanover Raceway honoured the resident of Chesley, Ont. with the June Fritsch Trot.

Horseman Tommy Andersson was the winner of the June Fritsch Trot, driving his sophomore colt Sharpshot Hall to a 2:01.4 maiden-breaking victory over Talbot Creek Ebony in the fourth race.

Trainer Kevin McMaster continues to master Hanover Raceway, as he pushed his local win streak to eight. Bob McClure guided six-year-old pacer Redline Hanover to a 1:57 victory in race number five and J Harris drove seven-year-old pacer Stars Xample to a 1:57.3 score in the following dash. Those wins give McMaster a perfect eight-for-eight record at the current Hanover meet.

Another highlight of the night was the final of the Pick 3 Fantasy Contest for the fans. Perle Breadner of Markdale, Ont. was the contest winner, picking up 29 points on the final night and winning by two points over a field of eight handicappers, who earned their spot in the finals during the qualifying weeks earlier.

The next fan contest will start in two weeks, with the co-operation of Country 93 and Modern Appliances of Hanover. Fans will be asked to pick a horse in four consecutive races and their horse must finish in the top three payoff positions. If they get all four correct, they’ll earn a spot in the finals on July 20. The top finisher in the finals will win a giant TV courtesy of Modern and Country 93. There will also be prizes for second and third place.

Racing resumes Saturday, June 15 with Molson's Men's Night at Hanover Raceway.
