Davis Jr. Taken To Hospital
Driver Billy Davis Jr. was transported to hospital following an accident in the seventh race at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday night.
Davis Jr. sent his mount Hope For Paddy three-wide off cover around the final turn when the four-year-old mare broke stride causing interference to the backfield and tossing her driver from the sulky. Davis hit the ground hard and was run over by Palm Patrol and James MacDonald.
After being tended to by the EMS crew, Davis was seen walking to the ambulance under his own power. He was unable to complete his remaining drives on the card and was taken to local hospital. Davis told Trot Insider from the hospital late Friday night that he is feeling fine and hopes to be back in the sulky tomorrow.
Hope For Paddy managed to stay on her feet during the incident, but she got turned the opposite way of the track and was apprehended in the infield by Chris Matthews, who ran and caught the line as she paced behind the toteboard. Reports from Mohawk indicate Hope For Paddy was not injured.
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Davis a full and speedy recovery.
