Armbro Flight Prep To Intense America
Many of North America’s top older trotting mares will be making their way to Mohawk Racetrack over the course of the next few weeks to compete in the Armbro Flight Stakes, and after her performance on Thursday evening Intense America is a mare that suddenly merits serious respect against those bearcats.
The five-year-old daughter of Taurus Dream-Intensite was a gate-to-wire winner in the $25,000 Fillies & Mares Trot at the Campbellville oval Thursday evening, and she did so in a career-best clocking of 1:53 for driver Sylvain Filion.
He hustled Intense America to the lead from Post 5 and she sped through splits of :27.1, :56.1 and 1:25 before using a :28-second closing quarter to seal the deal. Race favourite One More Ginny enjoyed a two-hole trip throughout, and despite bearing out badly in the lane she managed to stay for second. Third prize went to China Pearls.
Rene Dion, who trains the seven-time winner for Ecurie Gaetan Bono Inc of Montreal, QC, watched her improved this year’s record to 3-3-2 from 14 starts with the win. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $227,850.
