'Fella' Wins Opening Day Feature
Pembroke Fella, who was crowned the Aged Pacing Horse of the Year at the Prince County Horsemen’s Club Awards recently, won the opening day feature in 2:00.2 at Red Shores Summerside.
Brian MacPhee drove Pembroke Fella for owner-trainer Don Sweet of O’Leary, P.E.I. Forever Paradise was right there second for Marc Campbell while Bowyer Hanover finished third for Walter Cheverie.
The fastest mile of the day went to Dirt Track Momma in 1:58 flat for Campbell and trainer Jonah Moase. It was Campbell’s second winner on the afternoon.
Tobins Knockout, with Cheverie at the controls, officially started the 2013 countdown to the Governor’s Plate with a victory in the first race in 2:01.4. Frank Hansen trains the pacer for Malcolm Williams of Ellerslie, P.E.I. and Alan Williams of Oakville, Ont.
Brodie MacPhee recorded a driving triple on the program. MacPhee finished third in the driver standings in 2012 at the Prince County Oval.
Mitch Tierney had a training double on the day from his stable with You Gotta See This for driver Mike McGuigan taking the third race and Four Brass Starz scoring in the ninth with Campbell aboard.
