Scioto Hosts Memorial Day Matinee
Scioto Downs Racino will host a special Memorial Day race card on Monday, May 28 with a 1:00 p.m. post time.
The highlight of the card will be when 13 three-year-old trotters and 19 three-year-old pacer vie for $30,000 in each of the four Ohio Sire Stakes divisions. Monday’s races will mark the second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for both gaits as the first was held on May 4 at Lebanon Raceway.
Heza Rube and Trottin On Over, who each won a division of the OSS three weeks ago, will face off against each other in the second division (race five) of trotting colts. Trainers Marty Wollam and Mark Headworth will send their horses out from the three and seven hole respectively.
Tom Brinkerhoff swept both divisions for the pacers in leg one. Outdoor Fever, was second-placed-first due to interference caused by the winner Firetowers Stand. Outdoor Fever will leave from the second tier, post 10, in race eight.
Firetowers Stand, with the rail, will face Brinkerhoff’s other trainee My Myster E who won with Dan Noble at the helm in 1:58 and will leave from the eight hole this week in race seven. My Myster E finished second last week in the Buckeye State pace, which is a late closing series, and was timed in 1:51.4.
For the third week, race nine will have an 11-horse field and present the Super High Five wager. Through the first nine editions, horses from post 11 have won twice and finished third once.
Racing at Scioto is held every Wednesday-Saturday with a post time of 6:30 p.m. through Saturday, September 14. Special 1:00 p.m. cards will be held on May 27 (Memorial Day), July 4th, August 3 (State Fair races) and September 2 (Labor Day).
