Hanover Hosts Hockeyville Night
A few sprinkles of rain couldn’t keep the fans away on Hockeyville Night at Hanover Raceway.
A large crowd attended the annual event, which started in 2006 when Hanover was competing in the Kraft Hockeyville Contest. GM Gord Dougan said the entire community came together that year, and Hockeyville Night, is Hanover Raceway’s way of keeping that spirit alive.
Dozens of youngsters showed up in their hockey jerseys in the hopes of winning one of five bicycles donated by Hanover Raceway and Hanover Canadian Tire.
On the track, the action was just as exciting. Trevor Henry won four of the 10 races and finished second in three others. Henry got his first win of the night in race two with favourite Prettyndangerous in 1:57.4. Henry also got victories in race four with B M O C in 1:55.3, with Carlynda Hanover in race six in 1:57.4, and the Arthur, Ont. native got his last win on the night in race nine in an upset fashion with Cards That Count in 1:56.4. Two other Arthur natives, Bruce Richardson and Garret Rooney, had two wins each on the card.
Hanover Raceway also announced a new partnership with Brucelandair. The local Aviation company is going to provide a prize to the monthly top driver and trainer at Hanover and have donated a $1,300 dollar trip for six. One lucky fan will get to bring five friends on a trip to Killarney for lunch, or go on a sight-seeing trip over Toronto and Niagara Falls. The winner will be drawn from the Hanover Raceway ballot box on Dream Of Glory final day, Saturday, August 3.
Racing action continues at Hanover on Saturday, May 25. Post time is 7:30 p.m.
