Power Outage Forces "No Contest" At Flamboro
A freak power outage occurred in the middle of the fifth race at Flamboro Downs on Monday evening, forcing the ORC Judges to declare the race a “No Contest”.
Flamboro’s track announcer, Gary Guy, told Trot Insider it was the first time he had witnessed something like this.
“The field had just gone past the half-mile point when the track lights went out,” said Guy. “The ORC Judges quickly ruled the race a ‘No Contest’. The winds have been very strong all night, and they figure that’s what caused the power outage with the track lighting system.”
As a safety precaution, the track lighting system was switched to a back-up power source for the remainder of the card. All of the horses and drivers in the race safely pulled up after the incident took place.

it occurred once before year
it occurred once before year ago coming for home
complete darkness back up lights come on slowly
there were horse and drivers down everywhere
With all of the new
With all of the new technology available why not have solar lights placed around the track that would allow for some light even if it is low light and would always be on. Horses and drivers would at least be able to see to avoid running in to one another and pull up safely. The blackout must have made it very hard to see to pull up. The drivers did a great job!!!!!
It's just like any other
It's just like any other freak of nature that you can't see coming. Kudos to the drivers for getting the horses safely pulled up.
Was anyone or any horses
Was anyone or any horses hurt? Did anyone go down? And why is there not back up power ready to come on at all times? Seems like a safety requirement to me???
"Someone" was looking out
"Someone" was looking out for the drivers and their horses! We should give Thanks that no one was hurt.
Freaky indeed. What happens
Freaky indeed. What happens to the purse money in a situation like that. Is it distributed equally among all horses? I have never seen this situation before.
What about the purse money?
What about the purse money? How are the rules for that? Does everybody get a hitching fee? Just wondered. It was pretty scary.
With the weather warnings
With the weather warnings and high winds the way they have been all day, why wouldn't Flamboro do that (use backup power) in the first place to avoid a dangerous situation?

Forget the dangerous
Forget the dangerous situation, I had a TRI Box and my 3 horses were 5 lengths clear of the field at the half and looking good...LOL!
