Anndrovette Defeats Philly Distaffers
Two-time O'Brien Award winner Anndrovette overcame her assigned outside post position to win Wednesday afternoon's featured $30,000 Winners Over Handicap Pace at Harrah's Philadelphia.
Leaving from post eight, Anndrovette worked her way to the lead off the gate for driver Tim Tetrick, clearing past the :26.3 first quarter pole. She then posted a :55 half before coming under attack during the third panel with Drop The Ball (Corey Callahan) advancing to apply heavy first over pressure. However, Drop The Ball made a costly break in stride into the stretch leaving Anndrovette clear on top to cruise home for the one and a quarter length score in 1:50.3. Rocklamation (Yannick Gingras) and Monochromatic (Andy Miller) came on for second and third.
Anndrovette, who finished just a half-length behind Feeling You in Yonkers Raceway's Blue Chip Matchmaker Series Final in her last start on April 27 at Yonkers Raceway, paid $4.40 to win as the odds-on favourite.
Trained by P.J. Fraley for owners Bamond Racing LLC and Joseph Davino, the six-year-old Riverboat King has finished first or second in all seven of her 2013 starts to add $166,250 in purses to her $2 million bankroll.
Also on Wednesday's card, sophomore pacing fillies faced off in five $20,000 Stallion Series divisions and the winners were Mattwestern (1:52.3), Spotlight On (1:53.2), American Ginger (1:53), Icommandmyspirit (1:53.1), and Dragon Ruffles (1:53.3). The last three series winners completed a five-win day for Tetrick.
