Joie De Vie Fillies Sweep Lady Suffolk
A pair of fillies bred and owned by New Jersey’s Joie De Vie Farm, both trained by Chris Ryder, swept the split divisions of the Lady Suffolk on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Freehold Raceway.
Lola De Vie, by Credit Winner, claimed the $39,900 first division, a non-wagering event, while Vida De Vie, sired in New Jersey by Muscles Yankee, was a wire-to-wire winner in the $40,900 second division, carded as the third race. The Lady Suffolk is for three-year-old trotting fillies.
Lola De Vie, who was a length and a half winner with David Miller driving, covered the mile in 2:00.4, besting Feather Your Nest by a length and a half and Caneel Hall by a length in three-quarters. The win was her first in two starts this year and improved her record to three wins, one second and one third from 11 career starts.
The victory lifted Lola De Vie’s career earnings to $70,229.
Joie De Vie, based in Jobstown, New Jersey, was back in the winner’s circle with Vida De Vie, who trotted her mile in 2:01.2 with Daniel Dube driving, finishing three lengths ahead of Bouncing Bax. It was 14-1/4 lengths back to Parlia Hanover in third.
Vida De Vie, who won the $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Green Acres Final last October, improved her career record to four wins, three seconds and one third from 15 starts. This year, she has a win and a second in three tries.
Hauln Fanny, the odds-on favourite, broke stride before the start and finished last in the field of six.
The Lady Suffolk stakes record of 1:57.3 was established by Stacy Spice in 1996.
