Unforgetable Lady Posts Unforgettable Upset
Unforgetable Lady was set on closing out the year with a bang. The 34-1 longshot captured her first win of the season after beating out Fly Casual by a head in the $50,000 Prairie Magic for four-year-old pacing mares on Friday night at Northlands Park.
Unforgetable Lady and trainer/driver Jerry Nelner got away sixth as I Promise You Jemz (Brent Grundy) took the early lead reaching the first quarter in :29.3 before the 4-5 favourite, Outlaw Mochachino (Keith Clark), stepped up to the front. That mare battled with the first-over challenger Red Star Gilda (Kelly Hoerdt) to the half in :59.
Red Star Gilda finally cleared the front at the third quarter station in 1:29 but was faced with a challenge from Unforgetable Lady and Fly Casual (Mike Hennessy), who angled three-wide. The three blasted down the stretch and in a photo finish, Unforgetable Lady took all the glory. The time of the mile was 2:00.
Casual Fly was right there for second and I Promise You Jemz came back on for third.
Unforgetable Lady scored her fifth career win and bumped her earnings to $48,736 for the Waybar Stables of Surrey, B.C.
